The Last Ones to Visit--The Tabor Dahls

Now all of our children have visited us here in Nauvoo.  We were so happy to have Tabor and Katie and family visit us.  They arrived on Tabor's 33rd birthday.  His favorite cake is yellow cake and chocolate frosting.

The first day we took a wagon ride.  Elder Dahl drove Chad and Champ and I narrated.

Tabor was up at the barn one morning helping with the horses.  President Gilliland was there with some company.  He said he explained to the company that missionary standards hadn't changed.  Tabor wasn't a missionary, but a guest.

Like our other grandchildren, the kids liked Pioneer Pastimes the best.  We tried to go every day.

The water buckets were empty but I think Olivia was acting as if they were full.  The girls made friends easily at Pioneer Pastimes.  I don't know the friend's name, but I'm sure Olivia would.

We visited the post office and there is a bigger running water apparatus.

We also visited the Family Living Center.  We learned about preparing flax to become linen and cleaning wool to become wool thread.

At the John Taylor home, the girls heard the story about John Taylor coming back to Nauvoo to get his children's horse that he'd made.  This is the same horse.  It went to Utah and then was donated back to the Church.

After attending Rendezvous, the girls tried on fancy Rendezvous hats and capes.

When we visited the Cultural Hall, Tabor and Katie took a turn around the room on the original dance floor that Joseph and Emma danced on.  Ruby wanted to join in.

We visited Carthage Jail one day.

We also visited the Women's Garden.  What a lovely place!

 

At the Seventies Hall, Olivia signed the descendancy book as a 5th great granddaughter of Thomas Bateman and a 4th great granddaughter of Simpson David Huffaker.

These statues depict Hyrum and Joseph as they were leaving for Carthage in June, 1844.  They paused and Joseph looked over the city and said, "This is the loveliest place and the best people under the heavens.  Little do they know the trials that await them."

The Johnsons & the Nauvoo Pageant

The Nauvoo pageant came to town in July and once again, the Johnsons were able to be in the family cast.  They were only here for one week this year, but we enjoyed every minute of it.






Here are most of the Johnson children.  Morgan was home with Grandpa.

We took a tour of the tinshop one day while Marianne and Robert were at the Temple.

We also toured the post office.

Pioneer Pastimes wins the prize as my grandchildren's favorite site.  The younger children all love it.  Carolina dressed up as a pioneer.

This is a fun toy that you flip a beanbag into the air and try to catch it on the can on the other side of the board.

There are two buildings at Pioneer Pastimes--a log house and a log school.  Carolina is trying out the slate board at the school.  It is real slate.

Pioneer Pastimes has stilts that the kids can practice on.

My favorite home in Nauvoo is the Brigham Young home.  My favorite room in the home is the Council Room.  I can just imagine Brigham and the Apostles meeting there after Joseph's death.  There is such a spirit there.

While the Johnsons were here we did the Trail of Hope with the pageant core cast.  We ended up at the River.

The Johnsons had responsibilities at the Country Fair which is held each night at 7:00 before the pageant.  They did a great job.

Clarissa and Hyrum were part of the band which played for the round dancing.  They sounded great.  It was an honor for them to get into the band.  They may have preferred dancing though.  They did a great service.

Deseret's job was to get people to dance.  Who could do that better than Desi?  I'm sure she made this little guy's day.

The rest of the Johnson family was in charge of the handcart rides.  Liberty gave out beads to everyone who did handcarts.  I'm sure her smile made everyone happy.

The Broughs had a day off when the Johnsons came to dinner.  Elder Brough is sitting with Carolina with a lily pad on her head.  Elder Brough took some turns with it on his head too. 

 

 

This year, the Johnsons were in the gold cast which meant they were in the finale of the pageant.

What a wonderful pageant it was!  I attended as often as I could.  If I hadn't had other responsibilities I would have been there watching it every night.  It is the best time to come to Nauvoo.  I'm so thankful I could see it for two years.  We're so glad the Johnsons could participate this year.
